When you go out and buy a 12″ there is usually one song on there that either is the reason you bought the record in the first place or on first play was the one that stuck out the most. So from then on, you end up playing that song and forget the rest. But sometimes something brings your attention back to a record and on playing it again one of the other mixes that didn’t stand out before sounds REALLY good.

There is a point to all this. At my Uptown Lounge gig last week, someone asked if I could play The Rapture’s “House of Jealous Lovers”, which was a request that actually made sense with what I was playing, so I tried to look it up on my laptop only to realize that I hadn’t ripped that 12″ in yet. When I pulled the record out to rip it in last night I noticed that there is a Morgan Geist (of Metro Area fame) Version that I honestly don’t even remember listening to before. It’s nice, though – and maybe some of you missed it the first time around too.
