New Feature! Rare Finds…
by Weap on Jun.28, 2009, under Music
Michael Jackson’s passing is a very sad affair and my thoughts certainly go out to his friends and family. The man was a legend and had a fundamental impact on music as we know it. He’ll certainly be missed.
It’s been a crazy couple of weeks with the Treasure Fingers show and a trip to LA so I’ve been pretty lax on posting, but I plan to make up for all that this week. I’ve bought a ton of music of late and as soon as I get it all cataloged I’ll be dropping some flavor.
Firstly, I want to kick off a new feature on the blog. Going forward I’ll be posting some of the rare gems that I come across while digging through used record stores/thrift shops/garage sales. All tracks will be ripped from vinyl. For the kick off I have a few songs to share.
The first I picked up from Amoeba Records in Hollywood. This is a “Special Disco Version” of Blondie’s “Rapture” that was released in 1981 on Chrysalis Records. The track is over 9 minutes long and has some SWEET instrumentation that works right in with all the great nu-disco stuff that is coming out of late.

Starting on July 10th the First Fridays party that DJ Pascale and I have been throwing at Debonair Social Club is going to be re-branded as “Night Versions”, based on the late night disco cuts bands like Duran Duran and The Human League used to include on their singles before the remix revolutions kicked into effect. Here is one of those “Night Versions” of the track “My Own Way” that Duran Duran released on EMI in 1981 (that year kicked ASS, apparently).

The last track for this week was released on Mercury Records in 1982 (so close to being all ’81 this week…) by the band “Trio”. This German outfit was a one hit wonder that released the 8-bit wonder “Da Da Da” which you probably remember from the Volkswagen commercial a couple years back where two guys pick up and then re-trash a stinky couch (check it on You Tube here). I got the record for that track but I kind of dig the song from the flip side.

That’s it for this week. I have a TON of stuff to rip in and listen to. I’ll drop some of the highlights on here in the next couple days.
